The MR/Godapitiya National School is located on the Kekunu Mulla land, facing the Matara-Akuressa Main road and bordering the Nilwala River, about 2 km from the town of Akuressa in the Matara district.

The school was established on 02.09.1945 and the first alumni association was established in 1972 with the participation of businessman P.K. Ananda. Mr. Wimalasena Wellakage has held the post of secretary and Mr. Dharmasena Weragoda, who worked at the People’s Bank, has been appointed as the treasurer.

The association has information about the board of directors from 2005 to the present, but there is no written information before that.

The name of the first member of the association is mentioned as the retired Zonal Education Director, former Principal and currently the Chief Patron of the association, Mr. L. Chandrasena. At present, the number of members of the association has exceeded 1200. This association at Godapitiya National School has been registered as a legally recognized organization under No. AKU / SOC / 5 / 9 / 2019 / 130 on 2019.05.29 at the Akuressa Divisional Secretariat.
