About Us

When considering a leader’s vision or philosophy for the future, just as a powerful electric current breaks through darkness and reflects light, a leader too should be someone who can clearly foresee the future of his or her followers.

Within the school’s administrative structure, student leaders are given a special and significant place. In the school’s activities, he or she becomes a decisive factor. The leadership skills they demonstrate contribute greatly to guiding the school toward progress and enlightenment. Moreover, as a student, acquiring leadership skills is essential for developing social competencies.

Among thousands of students, student leaders can be seen as the link between the distinguished student body and the school administration. The Student Leadership Council of Godapitiya National School guides all students in achieving these goals together. This stands as an everlasting legacy of brilliant personalities that resonates across generations.

Implementing procedures with active participation to meet the high standards expected by the Godapitiya Central College community, enriched by years of history and culture, is a great responsibility. A major share of this responsibility rests with the Student Leadership Council.

Amidst thousands of shining stars at Godapitiya Central College, the Student Leadership Council embarks on its leadership journey from here as one of the brightest stars. By guiding the school to the highest heights and breathing new life into its history, they preserve what is ours while embracing innovation, proudly shaping a beautiful future and enhancing the glory of the school.

📗 Constitution / Code of Regulations

⚠️ Note: With effect from 01.01.2023, the student prefect system of MR / Godapitiya Central Collage (National School) has been amended. Accordingly, all procedures that were in force prior to this date are hereby cancelled.

💎 Leadership Structure

🟢 The Student Prefect Board shall consist of three divisions: Probationary, Junior, and Senior.
🟡 Probationary leaders shall be recruited from Grade 9, and Junior student leaders from Grade 10.
🟢 The Probationary Prefect Board shall consist of 20 members.
🟡 The Junior Student Prefect Board shall consist of 40 members (10 × 4).
🟢 Student leaders from Grade 11 and Advanced Level classes shall be considered Senior Prefects.

💎 Recruitment Procedure

🟡 When applications are called for Probationary Student Leaders, interested Grade 9 students must submit their applications to their class teacher.
🟢 The class teacher is responsible for separating applications by class and selecting the 10 most suitable applications from each class for submission.
🟡 The total number of applications submitted shall be 40.
🟢 Care must be taken to ensure fair representation and balance during the selection process.
🟡 These 40 applicants shall be called for an interview before a selection panel.
🟢 From each class, 5 students shall be selected, totaling 20 highly suitable students, to face the final interview panel.

🟡 The Interview Panel shall consist of:
⚜️ The Principal and the Deputy Principal
⚜️ Sectional Heads (Grades 6, 7, 8)
⚜️ Sectional Heads (Grades 9, 10, 11)
⚜️ Two teachers in charge of the Student Prefect Board

💎 Junior Student Prefect Board

🟢 All Grade 10 students are eligible to apply.
🟡 All applications shall be called for interviews on dates decided by the interview panel.
🟢 10 students per class shall be selected (05 girls and 05 boys).
The board shall consist of 20 male leaders and 20 female leaders.
🟡 If children of teachers currently serving in the school apply for student leadership positions, they shall be awarded bonus marks.

💎 Oath-Taking of the Student Prefect Board

🟢 After a three-month probation period, the oath-taking ceremony and awarding of official badges shall be conducted at an appropriate time.
(Both Probationary and Junior Boards are subject to this rule.)
🟡 After taking the oath and receiving the official badge, male student leaders must wear long-sleeved shirts.
🟢 Female student leaders must tie their hair in two plaits using green ribbons.

💎 Discipline and Management of the Student Prefect Board

🟡 Failure to wear the official badge is a punishable offence.
🟢 Conduct inconsistent with school discipline rules (improper uniform, romantic relationships, disobedient behavior, etc.).
🟡 Negligence in performing duties or engaging in / supporting disciplinary violations.
🟢 Late arrival to school.

For any of the above disciplinary violations, the Principal holds the authority to remove the official badge and dismiss the student from the Prefect Board.
Accordingly, after inquiry before a panel convened by the Principal, the final decision—removal, retention, or class suspension—shall be made.

Monitoring the disciplinary conduct of student leaders as well as other students is considered the collective responsibility of the entire teaching staff.

💎 Appointment to Senior Student Leadership Positions

🟢 Four senior leadership positions shall be selected from among Senior Student Prefects by a panel headed by the Principal.
🟡 If the position of Head Prefect / Head Prefectess or Deputy Head Prefect / Deputy Head Prefectess becomes vacant, a temporary appointment may be made from among Senior Student Prefects until the next official election.
